I can't tell you how badly this city needs that park. It will completely change the complexion of the area.

iPhone Vid of Arts District

Michelle Carrig managed to grab some cool video with her new iPhone 3GS from the 46th floor of Chase Tower (DowntownDallas.org offices). You can see shots of the Winspear and Wyly.

Truth is I'm terrified of heights, and watching this video makes my palms sweat. I'm glad Michelle was up there and not me. This fall I'll be enjoying all the new venues in the Arts District from ground level.

Have to say though, I'm pretty impressed with the video power of the iPhone. May need to upgrade.

Arts District Suite at Fairmont

In preparation for the opening of the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts, the nearby Fairmont hotel has created an Arts District Suite.

In addition to posters from arts organizations, the room includes a library of DVDs and CDs of local performances, including Maria Callas' appearance with what was then called the Dallas Civic Opera.

Star Trek's George Takei (Sulu) stayed in the suite last weekend while in town to speak to supporters of the Crow Collection of Asian Art.
