Fedora Website is Up

If you’re the kind of person who appreciates authentic Italian cuisine, who wants the tomato sauce to taste like Mama cooked it, and if you thought The Sopranos was a reality show—then yeah, you’re ready to visit fedoradallas.com.

Fedora is the newest restaurant at One Arts Plaza, from owner Gina Campisi (yeah, that Campisi!) featuring Executive Chef David Peck. The site provides everything you wanted to know about the restaurant including history, menu and catering info.

Check back here and on Fedora’s website to find out about the grand opening (rumor has it being this week). Don't forget—or we may have to send Tony and the boys over to take you for a little ride.

Hook 'em out to Jorge's for Texas-OU weekend!

Except for the possibility of the Cowboys winning a playoff game, this weekend is the biggest sports event this season: Texas vs OU. This great tradition of college football may not be within Dallas much longer (see Jerry Jones & his amazing new facilities out in Arlington), so make hay while the sun shines and come down to Jorge's for an old-fashioned Tex-Mex football party.

Drink Specials include:
House Margarita $ 6.00
Beer bucket (w/5 domestic) $15.00
Beer bucket (w/5 imported) $20.00
Plus, tons of appetizers.

Even if you're from the wrong side of the Red River, we'll be glad to have you.

The Tut Bus

Today begins the exhibit Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs at the Dallas Museum of Art. This exhibit will be in the US for an encore showing in only three cities! Don't miss out on your chance to explore this wonderful collection firsthand.

And while you're down in the Dallas Arts District, we're offering a FREE shuttle to and from the museum and One Arts Plaza. After spending the day at the DMA, ride the shuttle over for a delicious dinner at one of our world-class restaurants.

You can't miss the shuttle, we promise--just look at the pic.

D Magazine Fashion Show

We’ve all had this dream right? You saunter in to the lobby of a sexy-cool high-rise condo and there’s a fashion show happening in the lobby. Surrounded by beautiful people hoisting cosmopolitan martinis, you meet up with your friends—techno music thumps over the buzz of the crowd. Later you make your way up to the 22nd-floor, someone hands you a glass of champagne, a guitarist plays softly out on the balcony, and fashion models move like swans through the crowd. The lights of the city flood your senses.

This was my Thursday night at One Arts Plaza as I attended The D Magazine fashion show and Thursday Night Lights. We arrived early to sit outside The Screen Door for a great martini, and to watch the performers from Dallas Black Dance Theatre. I can’t begin to tell you how beautiful that was. The sun was setting, a small crowd was gathered, and the music was a soulful mix of trip-hop and urban. The dancers were simply amazing.

After my wife finished her tasty mango-mint julep, we decided to hit the fashion show. I won’t pretend that I know anything about fashion (those who know me can attest to that). However, for me it was the scene that made it worthwhile: beautiful people, chic clothes, lots of talking, laughing and warmth for a condo lobby. The models were supported on square pedestals instead of the typical runway walk, which made the event more personal. They rotated out every few minutes like go-go dancers—some wearing the boots to match.

Then came the best part, we went with my co-workers up to one of the 22nd floor condos for Thursday Night Lights. If you want to know how the other half lives (or if you’re the other half looking for a new home) you have to do this! First off, the condos are beautiful, large and contemporary. Secondly, the view is nothing short of amazing. The temperature was perfect, a light breeze, and the Dallas night was sparkling. We were on the north side looking down at the opera house construction (another great development). When that is finished, you can only imagine the coolness of watching people walk to and from the performance hall.

We had a glass of champagne, mingled, and talked to the models. I thought I had died and gone to Esquire.

One Arts Wins AIA Award!

Last night One Arts Plaza received a 2008 Dallas AIA Design Award from the Dallas chapter of The American Institute of Architects. There were over 115 entries with only 6 awards given in two Built Project categories: Small Project and Large Project, with 50,000 sf being the break point.

One Arts Plaza was the only project given an award in the Large Project Category!

This is a great honor, and we're very proud to receive this award. I think we should treat ourselves to a glass of wine at Dali.

DFW Yoga Day Raises Spirits

September 1st

The 2nd Annual DFW FREE DAY of YOGA was a huge success with over 2,500 participants! This was a great event that brought the awareness of yoga to a large group of new, and returning students.

This is the kind of event that can really enrich the heart of a community. Yoga is a great way to find inner peace and relaxation, while strengthening the body. One Arts Plaza was happy to be involved in this nourishing and fun endeavor.

Thursday Night Lights Begins Today

Join us and Briggs Freeman Real Estate Brokerage for Thursday Night Lights from 8 to 10pm. Guests can enjoy a complimentary glass of wine and enjoy the view of the Dallas night sky from a twenty-second floor residence. Then treat yourself to dinner and live entertainment in the Plaza, or take a serene walk through the Arts District.

“With only sixteen condos remaining at One Arts Plaza, it’s a critical time for buyers to come down and see the opportunities that are here.” Says Becky Frey of Briggs Freeman Real Estate Brokerage, the exclusive broker for One Arts.

Thursday Night Lights will run tonight through the fall.

TREC Hosts Membership Open House

The Real Estate Council will be holding its annual membership Open House and Diversity Initiative at the pool deck of One Arts Plaza on September 18th.

The Real Estate Council consists of 1,600 commercial real estate professionals, and they respresent more than 500 companies in the Dallas area.

There is no cost, but they do ask that attendees register at www.recouncil.com, send an email to rsvp@recouncil.com or call 214.692.3600.

Dine Around

I was talking to Paul Pinnell, owner/creator of Dali Wine Bar and Cellar, and we were discussing how people are doing their own, personal dine-arounds in the Plaza. This sounded like a great idea! So now I'm trying to gather some of my friends to venture out. A lot of my friends are "North of LBJ Only" types, so I may just take the wife. I'll report back my findings in another post.

If you've done your own dine-around at the Plaza, drop us a comment!

Goga! September 27th

Joining us in September is the multi-talented artist Goga. With heavy influences from the likes of Marvin Gaye, Carlos Santana and Buddy Guy, Goga is a unique and skilled artist who draws from his influences a powerful mixture of R&B, Latin and soulful jazz.

Goga performs hits ranging from Carlos Santana to Andrea Bochelli in, amazingly, twelve different languages! Goga also has original music from his forthcoming CD Color of My Love. Put this together with his ability to play guitar and piano and you have a musical event you cannot miss!

Come out to the Plaza on Saturday, September 27th for this fantastic show.

Jorge's Update

You can cut it with a knife, the suspense I mean. Jorge’s is planning on officially opening on Aug. 26. They will open for breakfast only on the 26th, then breakfast and lunch until Labor Day. After Labor Day they will be fully open: breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Good things come to those who...yeah, yeah..I'm really craving some Tex-Mex!

Tei An Now Open!

Yes, it's true Tei An is finally open for business. I promise you it was worth the wait. You can't get this kind of food just anywhere in America, much less in the heart of Texas.

The sobalier, the soba noodle chef, is a time-honored craftsman (like the sushi chef but with noodles).

The story of the soba noodle is actually very fascinating. Soba noodle tradition originated during the Edo period of Japan where inhabitants were more susceptible to beri beri because of eating large amounts of white rice which is low in thiamine. Thus eating thiamine-rich buckwheat noodles became a way to combat this deficiency. 1

Another great link about soba noodles.

Cooling Down Update

Well, we've done some tweaks to the August calendar. By moving some shows from the 7-9 slot to the 8-10 slot, we've spared the performers (and audience) the agony of the blistering Dallas heat.

Also, Dallas Black Dance theater will be moving from their Thursday performance. Instead we're bringing you two talented jugglers: Brad Johnson and David Slick. Brad is performing this Thursday, August 7th; David will perform August 14th, 21st and 28th.

More updates will come as we try and work around the inferno known as Texas summer.

Events Cooling Down

In case you haven’t noticed it’s hot outside, even by Texas standards. Because of the ridiculous heat we’re going to gear down a bit in August until things cool off. Thursdays will still feature performances from Dallas Black Dance Theatre, and Sunday we’ll still have our wonderful brunches and Urban Market kiosk. However, we’re clearing off the rest of the calendar. Not to worry, you can still come out and enjoy great Plaza dining any day of the week.

Jorge's Opening

Well, it has been revealed to me that Jorge's will not be opening July 31st after all. I'm snooping around trying to find out what the delay is because I'm certainly sad about it.

Will let you know as soon as I hear something.
