Last Call for “Love Letters” at the Winspear Opera House, ends Sunday, April 3

If you’ve never seen the original Broadway hit written by A.R. Gurney, or if you have, you do not want to miss LOVE LETTERS featuring Ali MacGraw and Ryan O’Neal presented by AT&T Performing Arts Center. Trust us, it’s not the same old song and dance. In fact, there is no singing. Or dancing.

The renowned actors who co-starred in the iconic 1970 film Love Story, return to the spotlight to tell, er, read the story of Andrew Makepeace Ladd III and Melissa Gardner through a series of (we’ll assume) handwritten letters exchanged over the course of a 50 year friendship, love affair and at times, hate affair.

Andrew is exactly who his seemingly distinguished name portrays him to be. The intelligent, cautious, over-achieving, mostly likable guy (albeit some prick-ish moments ensue) seems to have his five-year plan handy at all times. His counterpart is a well-to-do, free-spirited, ornery and quite often, self-centered young lady whose “live in the moment” mentality causes a bit of turbulence for her future.

The set is simple. One long, rectangular table, two spotlights (each shining on one actor), two chairs, two people, and two glasses of water sit front and center. The actors perch side by side reading aloud the letters each penned to the other as if they live in two different worlds. The two never exchange so much as a glance yet they share all of life’s victories, hardships, achievements and failures. The depth of their affections for one another is undeniable and flawlessly portrayed through MacGraw’s and O’Neal’s performances.

Treat your mom, your sister, your dad, your best friend or your significant other to a heartwarming show filled with love, laughter, wit and memories. Make reservations at one of our award-winning One Arts Plaza restaurants Tei-An, Proof + Pantry or Jorge's Tex Mex Cafe and make it an experience to remember. This Sunday, April 3 is the last day to enjoy LOVE LETTERS so get your tickets today!

BTWSPVA Students Chalk It Up with CUT

One Arts Plaza’s neighboring Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts students, recently partnered with OAP tenant, charlieuniformtango (CUT) on an incredible project! The gifted juniors and seniors used their talents to freshen up the cutting-edge, digital production company’s chalkboard displayed inside their office space.

“We strive to support the arts in Dallas, and this is a fun way to support these talented students. Everyone enjoys the art so much,” said Lola Lott, charlieuniformtango principal/CEO.

“We’re grateful to have the opportunity to decorate tango’s chalkboard,” said Paige Furr, BTW Visual Arts Coordinator. “The kids love to do this!”

Charlieuniformtango is a full service commercial post-production facility specializing in creative editorial, visual effects, audio mixing, and digital production. With an impressive client list that includes Chick-Fil-A, American Airlines, Home Depot, McDonalds and more, it’s no wonder CUT is celebrating its 21st year in the biz. We, at OAP, are pleased they’ve chosen to call our offices “home” for the last seven years.

Join our friends at JM Gallery Tomorrow for an artist talk with Kyle Hobratschk

This Wednesday, December 9 at 6:30 p.m., JM Gallery, located right here in One Arts Plaza, will be hosting an artist talk with Kyle Hobratschk, a young artist who hails from Saudi Arabia but earned his BFA from SMU in 2011. The exhibition he shares with fellow artist, Shelly Scott, called Dimensions has already received accolades from PaperCity Magazine editor, Patricia Mora

Kyle will be discussing his unique creative process which begins with the construction of small, imaginary architectural models inspired by his affinity for historical monuments, roof tops, silos and even headstones. Next, each structure is rendered using aquatint, a print process that produces deep, velvety tones and shadows. Each model is represented in several different pieces using a variety of angles and perspectives. When Kyle is not working at his studio in Bishop Arts, he is often in Corsicana where he offers students 6-week fellowship opportunities where they can reside and hone their craft at his newly renovated 100West Corsicana studio.

You don’t want to miss Kyle’s unique series! Join us tomorrow evening for a glass of wine, an intimate gathering with the artist and to learn more about his fascinating process. And remember, all pieces on display at JM Gallery are available for purchase. This is the perfect time to give a gorgeous piece to the art aficionados in your life, or treat yourself and your home to a beautiful oil painting or etching just in time for the holidays.

Booker T. Washington High School Students Perform at One Arts Plaza

The avant garde performances showcased an array of numbers ranging from very delicate, fresh and uplifting ballet solos to modern and contemporary movements with a dark, sultry twist. One Arts Plaza guests, tenants, residents and clients were stunned by the spectacular performances, and each number was met with applause.

Be sure to mark your calendars for the remaining two Booker T. Washington high school student performances! The BTWHS Jazz Comb will have your ear Friday, December 4 from 12-1p.m. in the One Arts Plaza lobby. Be sure to catch the BTWHS Choir on Thursday, December 17 from 12-1 p.m.

JM Gallery's current and phenomenal installation

JM Gallery was abuzz on the evening of November 7, as art collectors and enthusiasts filtered in and out of the gallery for a chance to meet artists Kyle Hobratschk and Shelley Scott. The opening reception was met with much enthusiasm, and art aficionados were intrigued by the pieces enjoyed mingling with the artists and learning about their processes and inspiration.

Viewers were especially interested in Shelley’s sculptures of household tools such as clamps, glue, and abstract shapes. Her work, almost primitive, provides unexpected perspectives towards the preconceived notions of dimension.

Similarly, Kyle’s pieces were praised for their representation of structural spaces. His artistic process is particularly interesting.  After building small architectural structures, he renders them using a traditional printing process producing prints and painting of deep, velvety shadows and abstract shapes.

If you missed a chance to attend the artist reception, Kyle Hobratschk and Shelley Scott’s exhibition will be on display at JM Gallery now through December 19. The gallery is open Tuesday through Thursday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
